Liberal Nuns - Ignoring the Bible

The Dominican sisters at St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus, Ohio have become part of an anti-death penalty campaign called "For Whom the Bell Tolls". Every time a person is executed in the USA for his crimes, these nuns ring a gong over the loudspeakers of their community. It is reported that this is done in 29 different states by various religious groups.

This practice was started several years ago in the Philippines by the Roman Cardinal Jaime Sin (yes, that's his last name). This is also in accord with the views of Pope John Paul II on this matter.

But God says in Ezekiel 33:11, "...I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked...", and it's sad that executions have to happen, but God recognizes we live in a sinful world and that without capital punishment, the sinful heart of man will more fully express itself without fear of retribution.

To keep the world His children have to live in from getting too far out of hand, God commanded in Genesis 9:6-7, "And surely your blood of your lives I will require; at the hand of every beast I will require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man. Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made He man."

Yet it's quite obvious John Paul II and the Dominican sisters really don't care what the bible says. However, Pope Gregory XIII in 1572 joyously celebrated the murder of countless thousands of bible-believing Protestants in France with "Te Deums" sung in churches and coins minted to commemorate the event. I doubt if the Dominican sisters are ringing bells for those people.
