Rome - In Step With the Rest of the Liberals

In his April, 2001 pastoral letter, Bishop Howard (not L. Ron) Hubbard of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, New York displays a liberal sentiment that could only receive a loud "Amen" from the Rev. Jesse Jackson or a hearty "Well Done" from New Labour.

Titled, "Aiding Poor Must Be Church Priority", 'His Excellency' goes through the same old stale litany of woes about how we aren't doing enough for the poor. (Ed note - as if taking 30-35% of my paycheck in taxes isn't enough.)

The letter ends on a crescendo of the need to support, "various advocacy initiatives that will address constructively the systematic causes of poverty..." and that Catholics should, "make the elimination of poverty a priority for our Church."

We've heard from Rome, but what does the bible say about such things? The sin of Adam and Eve brought the curse into the world. Genesis 3:17-18 says, "CURSED IS THE GROUND FOR THY SAKE; IN SORROW SHALT THOU EAT OF IT ALL THE DAYS OF THY LIFE. THORNS AND THISTLES SHALL IT BRING FORTH TO THEE."

A promise of God not "claimed" these days is Deuteronomy 28:15-16, "IF THOU WILT NOT HEARKEN UNTO THE VOICE OF THE LORD THY GOD, TO OBSERVE TO DO ALL HIS COMMANDMENTS AND HIS STATUTES, WHICH I COMMAND THEE THIS DAY, THAT ALL THESE CURSES SHALL COME UPON THEE, AND OVERTAKE THEE."

The bible teaches the "systematic causes of poverty" is man's own sinful nature and his rebellion against God. In typical Roman manner, Bishop Hubbard does not address the issue of sin, the need for repentance, and faith in Christ ALONE, but in league with his godless liberal friends, his way is to spend more and more money.

This Bishop does not care about the poor, but in having the people taxed to the point where they can all again be serfs, just like in those glorious Dark Ages which Rome so fondly longs for.

Now, we are to help the poor, and the Lord will bring into our lives all sorts of circumstances where He wants us to help, but I can guarantee you that every last penny could be spent on "poverty" and we would still have poverty! Jesus said in John 12:8, "FOR THE POOR YE ALWAYS HAVE WITH YOU." He knows this is a sinful, fallen world, and there will be poverty until HE comes back to reign.

Bishop Hubbard, by his saying we can eliminate poverty shows he does not believe Jesus Christ. May our "priority" be the preaching of Jesus Christ and the free forgiveness of sins. Should we believe on Jesus Christ, or on Bishop Hubbard? I believe on Jesus Christ.

May Catholics forsake their bishops, leave Romanism, and receive Christ by faith ALONE. May God protect us from Rome and grant us a new Reformation.
