The Benefits of a Catholic Education

Seton Hall University, a Catholic university in South Orange, New Jersey, has financially benefited from the big donations of certain alumni who just happened to be engaged in corporate fraud, and even names buildings after such crooked, rich, contributing alumni as:

The Brennan Recreation Center. First Jersey Securities Chairman Robert Brennan in 1987 was ordered to pay $71.5 million for defrauding clients by manipulating penny stock schemes. The judge in the case said Brennan was, "Completely without remorse." Brennan was probably saving his remorse for the confessional!!

More recently -

The Walsh Library. Frank Walsh, Jr., a former Tyco board member, is presently, "Being sued by Tyco for breach of fiduciary responsibility for receiving $20 million from Kozlowski (the CEO) without the board's approval," according to an article titled, "Seton's Hall of Shame," in the September 30 issue of 'BusinessWeek.'

Kozlowski Hall. Dennis Kozlowski was removed as CEO of Tyco earlier this year, and according to the same 'BusinessWeek' article is, "Charged with running a criminal enterprise that looted more than $600 million from shareholders."

'BusinessWeek' reported that, "A Seton Hall spokeswoman says there are no plans to remove the names (from the buildings)." Being a Catholic institution, Seton Hall continues to act like nothing has happened. In the face of all this, a September 20 school press release announced, "Striving to have INTEGRITY AND PROFESSIONALISM (emphasis mine) permeate every aspect of academic life, Seton Hall University's Stillman School of Business is holding its annual UNDERGRADUATE INTEGRITY AND PROFESSIONALISM Student Convocation...in KOZLOWSKI HALL." I wonder if Dennis will be attending or speaking?

And the Seton Hall sports teams are named the "Pirates." How appropriate.

May God's Spirit grant many in Catholic schools repentance from Catholicism, and faith in Christ ALONE.
